You know those days when you are just craving a cake or something very elaborate… but you only have a few things in hand. Those days when you know that you will have to improvise and create something fast that only requires the five ingredients you already have. Well, that is how this little back to school cookie treat was born!
For me, cookies and cereal are the two best breakfast foods. Whenever I say that people stare at me like if I could be crazy. How about pancakes? Bacon and eggs? Nop. Noe one has such things for breakfast back in Argentina. And as much as I do like them… they are for special occasions and do not feel like the daily normal breakfast at all. But Oreos and milk are for sure a breakfast food! Note: This was my first time buying Newman-O’s and they are pretty much like healthier and less sweet Oreos.
Oreos are one of my favorite cookies. Growing up, I would leave school at around 5pm and go home to catch up on my favorite TV show while enjoying some cookies and milk. Oh! The little pleasures in life! I know this is another thing that doesn’t happen in the US (or in Europe!) and it makes me kinda sad to think that once I have kids I cannot really wait for them with chocolate milk and cookies, but instead have dinner ready. I’m now used to having early dinner, but during the first week I was living with my husband something really funny happened. I bought some delicious pastries and waited for him to come back from work with the 5 o’clock tea ready. He was so confused… and even said he wanted that as dessert after food. And I was even more confused… how about the tea?? Don’t you people have breakfast-lunch-tea and at around 8:30pm dinner? Somehow I lost, and we ended up having dinner at 6:30 everyday! (Mostly because by 8:30pm the restaurants were getting ready to close)
Anyways! I now lost my little chocolate milk and cookies afternoon treat… but I still have it for breakfast or even dessert! And one day… there was whipped cream in the fridge but nothing to put it on, until I saw the Newman’s Oh’s waiting for me int the corner of the kitchen. I put the whipped cream on one. Delicious! Put whipped cream on the second one… and my husband appeared, and said “WAIT!” And he brought the chocolate sauce!
After the whipped cream and the chocolate sauce, I said “WAIT!” and brought the sprinkles! And now I know my new favorite treat… and my new little fun dessert tradition! Perfect to find waiting for you after a day at school or work.
LITTLE TIP: Eat each back to school cookie traeat in one bite! Sushi style 😉
